What’s the Real Cost of 30g of Protein?
Not all “high-protein” foods are created equal. While protein balls and bars might seem like an idealistic way to boost your intake, the real question is - how practical are they?
To hit a modest 30g of protein from many of these foods, you’re often consuming a huge calorie load. For example:
🔹 Chicken breast: 141 kcal per 30g protein ✅
🔹 Protein peanut butter: 527 kcal per 30g protein
🔹 Protein granola: 748 kcal per 30g protein
🔹 Cocobella Protein Yogurt: 804 kcal per 30g protein
Sure, some of these foods are tasty and convenient, but “high-protein” is just branding, it doesn’t always mean a product is practical for hitting your goals.
This isn’t to say these foods are “bad,” but if you’re aiming for efficient protein intake (especially in a calorie-controlled diet), be mindful of the trade-offs. A protein cookie with nearly 800 kcal for 30g protein? Probably not the best deal.
Would you still pick any of these? Or are you sticking with your trusty chicken breast? Let us know in the comments!
